“It’s fabulous to have access to these online resources that have such a variety of learning experiences … It really shows the depth of learning that these kids are getting access to,” shares Miss Ellis, speaking about the Learning for Good online resources she uses in her remote western NSW classroom.
On Helping Hands this week, we talk about the importance of education for social change and announce our partnership with Learning for Good.
“Learning for Good is an education technology charity,” explains Chris North, founder and CEO of Learning for Good.
“It acts as a digital infrastructure platform to support organisations where they may not have the capability to develop digital … (and) it connects schools and community groups to (educational) resources.”
The partnership between Helping Hands and Learning for Good will see organisations who feature in Helping Hands documentaries and panel discussions given the opportunity to exponentially expand the impact of their work. Classroom activities will be developed for teachers to access and use, introducing the positive and uplifting stories of social change into classrooms across Australia.
“Learning for Good is going to allow us to make a generational impact,” shared Helping Hands producer, Richard Attieh, at the recent 100th episode celebration event.
“The stories that we’re producing are going to go on TV and social media, and now they can go into schools as well. Students anywhere from Year 3 up to the HSC level are going to start interacting with our content.”
A digital education resource platform is necessary, explains Chris, because there are challenges present in Australia’s education system that create disadvantage. Learning for Good exists to address these challenges and is successfully overcoming them. It connects resources created by experts in their fields to teachers and students in everyday classrooms, equipping them with the confidence to teach any subject.
Chris and the Learning for Good team passionately believe that best practice in education means equal opportunity for all classrooms, their students and teachers, to access quality resources irrespective of geography or social disadvantage.
For Australian school students, the opportunity to interact with Helping Hands documentaries and hear from experts discussing social topics is invaluable.
"We will be providing teachers and students with the opportunity to engage with a wide variety of important social topics, and equip our future leaders with the knowledge they need to make the world a better place," says Richard.
To celebrate this new partnership between Helping Hands and Learning for Good, we are giving Australian schools the opportunity to be featured in an episode of Helping Hands, and also access the growing library of Helping Hands’ educational resources for free on the Learning for Good platform.
