As a broadcaster reaching towns and cities in every corner of Australia, Vision Christian Media is in a unique position at Christmas time. Rise and Shine breakfast radio presenters, Fel Limmer and Andy McLennan, invite listeners from the city to the bush to share the ways they celebrate Christmas.
At Vision Media, the Christmas spirit is alive and well. From the biggest cities to the far-flung places of Australia, Vision radio, digital and published resources are connecting people to each other and to the true meaning of Christmas.
Connection is the key for the national broadcaster. Over the airwaves, online, through the Vision App, social media and in print, Vision reaches their Vision family with inspiring and uplifting content.
Vision also supports Christmas initiatives run by individuals, communities and organisations around the country to help local communities keep the Christmas spirit alive and well.
Christmas for the Bush Bash is one such initiative. A major campaign held every November by Care Outreach, who are dedicated to caring for rural and outback families, they tour outback Queensland, taking in towns like Dalby, Roma, Charleville, Quilpie, Tambo, Wyandra and more. Volunteers deliver Christmas hampers, while musicians like Golden Guitar winner Brendan Walmsley provide musical entertainment.
Vision’s Rise and Shine presenter Andy McLennan joined this year’s tour and said it was heartwarming to help bring Christmas cheer to the bush.
“My highlight was meeting our audience from all the towns across Queensland that have a Vision signal, or listen to us via our app,” Andy said.
Vision Radio has a massive reach, with transmitters in 800 small towns including places like Penguin, Tasmania, Katherine in the Northern Territory, and Marble Bar in Western Australia. In Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, listeners tune in via digital radio or the Vision app.
When Helping Hands visited the Vision studios, breakfast presenters Fel and Andy were taking calls from listeners about their many community initiatives for the festive season. Listeners also sent in Christmas greetings by video for Fel and Andy to share with the rest of Australia.
Carols on the Green in Warrnambool (Victoria), an outdoor movie night in Bunbury (Western Australia), a Christmas lunch in Charleville (Queensland), and flights for Santa to visit remote communities in Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory are just a few of the many ways Vision audiences are celebrating Christmas this year.
Rise and Shine host, Fel Limmer, said it’s always uplifting for her to hear about these kinds of events.
“When we talk about Christmas on the radio, everyone really gets excited,” Fel said. “We have so many calls and texts and people leaning in because they want to share what they do in their communities, their churches, the wonderful outreach events that are happening.”
